About

This site is intended to provide general information for anyone in the US over the age of 18 looking to further their education.

A lot of what people believe is true about getting into college in the US is rooted in the standard practices for your typical 17-year-old graduating high school senior who is still a legal minor and still financially dependent upon their parents. If you are trying to further your education as a legal adult, a lot of what you think is true about college may not really be true for your situation.

You may not need some of the prerequisites you think you need, such as a high school diploma/GED or college entrance exam scores. Some of the standard scholarships will not apply but that doesn't mean you can't get financial aid.

The rules are different for adult learners. Things will go smoother if you learn how things work and what rules actually apply to you.

If you are considering taking classes at a nearby local college, get a current copy of their catalog and contact a counselor. Don't make any assumptions. Ask a whole lot of questions (and take notes). Find out what really needs to happen for you to enroll, whether part-time or full-time, just for enrichment or to seek a degree.
